Pune’s Offer to Host RCB Home Ties in Gahunje: A Potential Solution Amidst Stadium Suspension
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to witness a potential shift in home bases for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team. With the Chinnaswamy Stadium suspended following a stampede during RCB’s victory parade on June 4, the team might have to relocate all their home matches to Pune for the 2026 season. This move could see Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Gahunje become RCB’s new home base.
According to Kamlesh Pisal, the MCA secretary, discussions are underway to host RCB’s matches in Pune. He confirmed that the team is facing challenges in Karnataka due to the stampede, and they are actively seeking an alternative venue. Pune has offered its stadium, and preliminary talks are underway to address technicalities. Pisal expressed optimism, stating that if everything falls into place, Pune will likely host the matches.
This potential change highlights the league’s ability to adapt and find solutions amidst unexpected circumstances. It also showcases the importance of having backup plans and alternative venues to ensure the smooth continuation of the IPL.
